EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH OF THE RELATION BETWEEN THE RESONANCE REGIONS CROSSING IN AN OPEN RESONATOR OF A DIFFRACTION RADIATION OSCILLATOR AND ITS OUTPUT POWER LEVEL

Expansion of the continuous frequency tuning range of oscillators, including the diffraction radiation oscillators, is a scientific problem of a great theoretical and applied importance. In the diffraction radiation oscillators, the continuous generation range can be extended by using a smooth combined (electronic plus mechanical) frequency tuning. Still by now there are no comprehensive studies devoted to the physical phenomena associated with the combined frequency tuning. An in-depth experimental analysis of source's output power dynamics revealed that a smooth combined frequency tuning is accompanied by crossing of the adjacent resonance regions (resonances) of the electrodynamic system of the oscillator. In the crossing areas the phenomenon of constructive interference is observed regularly (almost periodically), which is pronounced in the form of peaks of output power level occurring in the regions of combined tuning. Thus, the resonance crossing phenomena in the electrodynamic system of the oscillator under investigation enable one not only continuously tune the oscillator in a wide frequency range, but also increase the output power significantly.
