PROPERTIES OF THE MULTIPLET OBSERVED IN THE SPECTRUM OF OSCILLATIONS OF A CHAIN OF COUPLED WAVEGUIDE RESONATORS

A numerical experiment is applied to investigate properties of the multiplet observed in the frequency dependence of the transmission factor of an electromagnetic wave through a chain of coupled waveguide resonators. An important problem of determining the standing wave structure appearing in the chain in the case of the resonance wave transmission through has been solved for a small number of the resonators. Limitations are discussed to the use of the conventional nomenclature of natural oscillations in such chains. A new physical interpretation has been given to those oscillation modes for which no standing wave is excited in separate resonators of the chain. Such oscillations can be regarded as disintegration of the long chain of coupled resonators into a sequence of uncoupled short trains. The obtained results can be used for designing waveguide filters, antennas, linear accelerators, and slow-wave structures.
