PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT OF PIC BASED STBC CODED MC-CDMA BY MAI REDUCTION USING BINARY ORTHOGONAL COMPLEMENTARY SEQUENCE

Usage of Space Time Block Codes (STBC) in communication systems is now highly recommended as it improves the performance of the system through the diversity it provides. It has been an important research topic in Multicarrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) system. Since the MC-CDMA system serves multiple users, performance of a particular user is bound to be affected by the remaining users. This interference from other users is termed as Multiple Access Interference (MAI). There have been many researches on mitigating MAI in MC-CDMA as it would result in performance enhancement. In this paper, we propose a Parallel Interference Cancellation (PIC) based STBC coded MC-CDMA system with Binary Orthogonal Complementary (BOC) sequence as the spreading code to mitigate MAI. The orthogonality of the BOC and cancellation of MAI at the receiver by PIC improves the system performance considerably. The proposed STBC MC-CDMA system shows significant improvement in the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance over the conventional STBC MC-CDMA system. The simulation results support our proposal of using BOC over the popular Walsh Hadamard sequence and PIC at the receiver to cancel MAI.
