要約

Firefighters and workers in many industrial settings can suffer a noticeable effect from a very high temperature exposure. Flash fire temperature can reach more than 800°C, and the heat fluxes can be up to 80 kW/m2. Textile protective garments were used in the flash fire to prevent the skin burn and provide protection against a high heat flux environment. Applying phase-change materials (PCMs) in fabrics leads to the improvement of the thermal regulating property of the fabrics. In order to prevent or minimize skin burn damage resulting from flashover, a thermal protective composite fabric using a glass fiber and a basalt fiber incorporated into a PCM has been upgraded, developed, and compared with fabric performance without PCMs. A thermal protective performance (TPP) testing apparatus was used to evaluate the heat insulation and fire protective performance properties. Galactitol and NaCl + MgCl2 phase-change materials were used and investigated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) testing apparatus. Thermal radiation reflecting properties of an aluminum foil fabric in the present study were characterized using a UV−Vis−NIR (ultraviolet−visible−near infrared) spectrophotometer.
