EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF THERMOPHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AlSiCp METAL MATRIX COMPOSITE
要約
The objective of the present investigation was to characterize the thermo-physical and mechanical properties of AlSiC MMC suitable for heat pipes. In this paper an overview of AlSiC (p) metal matrix composite is presented through: production techniques, effects of reinforcements, mechanical, thermo-physical properties and heat transfer characteristics of the AlSiC (p) MMC. AlSiC (p) (Al-7075 and 13% by vol. SiC particles with 25 μm size) based cylindrical work piece (55 mm φ, 150 mm) was manufactured by stir casting method. Considering the applications of AlSiC (p) MMC in heat pipe technology, tests involving Tensile strength, Compressive Strength, Optical and SEM analysis, relative density and porosity were conducted on the manufactured workpiece. The uniformity of Silicon particle distribution in matrix was observed by SEM analysis. Results show increased density of AlSiC (p) MMC resulting in reduced porosity, higher strength, hardness and grain size reduction are achieved by increasing the weight percent of SiC (p).
