INVESTIGATION OF THE OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS OF A LOOP HEAT PIPE AT DIFFERENT CONDENSER COOLING TEMPERATURES

The results of developing and investigating the operating characteristics of a copper−water loop heat pipe (LHP) with a heat transfer effective length of 310 mm are presented. The pipe was equipped with a 7 mm thick flat−oval evaporator with a 30 × 30 mm active zone, a condenser with spiral finning, and a cooling jacket. The tests have been conducted at horizontal and vertical orientations of the device in the electric power range from 5 to 1400 W, with water temperature, cooling the LHP condenser, varied in the range from 10 to 80°C. The dependence of parameters, characterizing the LHP operating efficiency, on the condenser cooling temperature has been studied in tests. The research on the start-up of the device at low and moderate heat loads has also been carried out.
