Effect of Mesh Screen on Heat Transfer Enhancement of Impinging Jet

An experiment has been carried out to investigate heat transfer enhancement by installing a mesh screen inside of a jet nozzle. The effects of mesh screen location, nozzle-to-plate spacing, and jet Reynolds number on heat transfer augmentation were studied. Results show that mesh screen location and nozzle-to-plate spacing have significant influence on the flow structure and heat transfer of impinging jet. Among three mesh screen locations, the jet with L/d = 0 gives the maximum heat transfer rate. Compared with the case of no screen, the local and average Nusselt numbers in the stagnation region are increased up to 27.13% and 7.42%, respectively.
