EXPERIMENTAL FLOW VISUALIZATION OF NATURAL CONVECTION IN DISCRETELY HEATED OPEN CAVITIES
要約
For an understanding of flow and heat transfer behavior in a geometry relevant to the cooling of electronic components, experimental flow visualization has been conducted in a discretely heated, vertical, open-top cavity with conducting vertical walls. The experiments have been carried out for two different values of cavity aspect ratio, for high and low vertical wall thermal conductivities, various values of input heat flux to the source, and air as the working fluid. Cigarette smoke has been used as a tracer material. A flow separation phenomenon is observed inside the cavity of aspect ratio 3.57 for both high and low conductive walls; however, the location of the recirculation cell has been different. The formation of the recirculation cell is due to the conjugate heat transfer effects, in particular radiation heat transfer. The understanding obtained from these experiments has allowed development of more accurate numerical models for prediction of flow and temperature fields.
