要約

Predictions of annular two-phase flow using the mechanistic model are of interest to the nuclear industry as they present a viable means to predict dryout conditions with reasonable accuracy in untested fuel bundle geometries or operating conditions. Among many closures required for solution of the mechanistic model, an important initial value is the initial entrainment fraction (IEF). IEF refers to the fraction of liquid which is in the form of droplets at the transition to annular flow in a heated channel. While IEF prediction models and correlations are available in literature, these have not been validated as there are no data in literature which explicitly mention obtaining IEF. This paper reports measurements of entrained fraction made very near to the transition to annular flow. This provides us with a very good experimental estimate of IEF. Additionally, these results give important insights into the factors that govern IEF and highlight the influence of the churn flow regime and possibly heat flux on IEF.
