SYSTEM OF LANDFILL GAS COLLECTION AND UTILIZATION

The system for collection and disposal of landfill gas using modern methods of calculating, techniques, and materials was developed. The system is adapted to the conditions of landfill No. 5 (Kiev region) and includes utilization of 600−800 m3/h LFG to generate ~1 MW of electricity. Original technical solutions allowed us to develop the system at operational landfill. Mathematical modeling of the system was carried out with the software system GasCondOil on the basis of thermodynamic modeling, using the massive of experimental data and the programming phase transitions, properties, and processes. The calculations obtain the basic characteristics of the system: the material balance of LFG in the system, the pressure difference (input−output) in all sections of pipelines, the gas flow rate, phase composition, and flow. The system was analyzed for the absence of out-of-range of parameters. Technological developments have been successfully implemented at the landfill by LNK Company, one of the leading ones in the field of LFG utilization in Ukraine. A station was created for LFG processing into electricity by a block of five gas generators, TEDOM Cento 180 (Czech Republic). The system transmits electricity produced to the centralized network on an ongoing basis. The station is the first stage of the complex, designed to produce 4.5 MW of electricity. This first stage system allows reducing annual methane pollution by 30,000 MT CO2eqv.
