要約

In in vivo experiments, the effects of nanocerium (cerium oxide nanoparticles, CeONPs) on the erythrocyte stability to acid hemolysis, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS and RNS) generation and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) levels in the blood plasma and erythrocytes of old rats were investigated. It has been found that in the blood plasma and red blood cells from old rats, the intensity of oxidative and nitrosative stress increases, which results in a significant increase in the portion of unstable to hemolysis erythrocytes and a significant up-regulation of ROS and RNS generation compared with adult rats. An introduction of nanocerium (0.1 mg / kg, per os) for 14 days to old rats fully restores erythrocyte stability to acid hemolysis, fully normalizes the fraction of unstable red blood cells, and reduces ROS and RNS generation in both the plasma and erythrocytes. Nanocerium normalizes circulating pools of H2S by increasing reduced plasma's pools of H2S and reducing elevated erythrocytic pools of the latter.
