Physiological Regeneration and Functional Activity of Hepatocytes at Normobaric Hypoxia

We have studied the effect of dosed normobaric hypoxia on the parameters of physiological regeneration and functional activity of hepatic parenchyma in adult rats. It was shown that 14 and 28 sessions of normobaric hypoxia (12% O2 in N2, 1 hour per day) there is an increase in the number of hepatocytes per the square unit of the tissue (especially of binuclear cells) and in the nucleocytoplasmic ratio and the blood serum concentration of albumin. After 28 days of normobaric hypoxia influence there is an increase in activity of alanine transaminase, and at the same time a decrease in activity of aspartate transaminase. Thus, dosed normobaric hypoxia increases regeneratory properties of the hepatic parenchyma and influences hepatocytes' functional status by means of increasing albumin content in the blood serum and by means of changing transaminases activities.
