要約
For many years, health care has been practiced within the context of a medical model, but with the recognition that U.S. health care is failing to meet the needs of citizens, times are changing. One new vision is that health care does and should operate as a complex adaptive system. This model supports the Institute of Medicine's call for changes in the way health care is delivered in the United States. As part of a complex adaptive system, nurses are no longer relegated to subservient roles. The issues that nurses now must face are how to move to the forefront of health care with professional autonomy while remaining focused on patients' good at the point of care.
