Effect of Nitrogen on Fucoxanthin Accumulation in the Diatom Cylindrotheca closterium (Ehrenb.) Reimann et Lewin
要約
This study reveals the results in the fucocsantin accumulation in cells of diatom Cylindrotheca closterium common in the coastal waters of the Black Sea. For this experiment, varying concentrations of sodium nitrate (112, 150, 225, and 300 mg·L-1) in an F/2 medium was used. It was shown that maximum content of fucoxanthin in biomass can be obtained by culturing C. Closterium in low light (6 klx) and a sodium nitrate concentration of 300 mg·L-1. Such conditions provide the yield of a high number of C. closterium (2 mln cells·mL-1), average specific growth rate in 0.21 day-1 and a threefold increase of fucocsantin concentration in the dry biomass of microalga (15.2 ± 0.3 mg·g-1). Cylindrotheca closterium can be regarded as promising in biotechnology.
