It has been shown that in surface waters of Ukraine the concentration of the dissolved organic substances of this group varies from 0.03 to 1.41 mg/L. Their contribution to the total content of carbon of dissolved organic matter (Corg) accounts for 0.3−7.8% (on the average not more than 2.6% Corg). The content of protein-like substances in the water depends on the trophic state of a water body, and also on the intensity of development of hydrobionts. The minimal concentrations of protein-like substances are registered in wintertime, whereas their maximal concentrations − in spring and summer. The protein-like substances observed in surface waters are characterized by a wide range of their molecular mass − from < 1.0 to > 70.0 kDa. The compounds with the molecular mass of < 1.0 kDa prevail among different fractions. In the total balance of dissolved protein-like substances, the maximal total content of the fractions of protein-like compounds with the molecular mass of ≤ 5.0 kD attains 45−72%. Data on the average mass molecular mass (Mw) of protein compounds and possible reasons of its variability are also given in the paper. %8 2015-04-07
