T1 Measurement of Impairments and Functional Limitations in Older Adults: Conceptual Considerations and Practical Applications JF Critical Reviews™ in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine JO CRP YR 2002 FD 2002-06-01 VO 14 IS 2 OP 79 AB This review provides a framework that examiners of older adults can use to choose measures of impairments and functional limitations. Decisions are framed around concepts of disablement and enablement. Choices are discussed in the context of issues, such as functional limitations versus functional ability, capacity versus usual behavior, self-report versus performance-based measures, and disease-specific versus generic measures. Examples are provided to illustrate the breadth of available measurement options. Examples include measures of impairments and functional limitations appropriate for any older individual, as well as disorder-specific measures specifically developed for individuals with cardiovascular, arthritic, and neurological conditions.
