T1 Green flagellate algae of continental water bodies of Israel JF International Journal on Algae JO IJA YR 1999 FD 1999-06-01 VO 1 IS 3 SP 71 OP 85 AB A taxonomic list of green flagellate algae found in continental water bodies of Israel during 1995-1998 is presented. It contains 11 species belonging to one class (Chlamydophyceae), two orders (Chlamydomonadales and Volvocales), four families (Chlamydomonadaceae, Haematococcaceae, Phacotaceae and Volvocaceae) and seven genera. One genus (Chloromonas Gobi) is recorded for Israel for the first time. Eight species are rare, new for the Israeli flora. Two new species, Chlamidomonas pallidopsis Massjuk et Lilits., and Chlamidomonas israeliensis Massjuk et Lilits., are new for science. Latin diagnoses and original drawings of newly described species are presented, as well as drawings and descriptions of local populations of rare taxa, and the discussion of their deviation from original diagnoses. According to generalised literature and original data, representatives of the class Chlamydophyceae, order Chlamydomonadales, family Chlamydomonadaceae and genus Chlamydomonas Ehr. dominate in the taxonomic list of green flagellate algae of Israel. This correlates with peculiarities of the taxonomic spectrum of green flagellates in the world flora.
