In this paper, a basic level of understanding of shadowing loss along with its effects on different electrical parameters of a solar module is presented. Qualitative and quantitative models for different cases involving shadowing on single and multiple cells in a single module have been formulated. Quantification of power loss in a solar module for different shadow rates over a single solar cell is done and results have been verified through actual measurements carried out on a solar simulator. Variation of power loss due to shadowing with respect to the number of bypass diodes in a module is also studied. %8 2016-02-02
