Inverse radiative methods are presented in order to reconstruct the axisymmetric thermal structure set up in a premixture propane-air flame. Spectral absorption and temperature profiles in a cross-section of the flame were carried out by inversion of the radiative transfer equation (RTE) from a set of parallel lines of sight emission and transmission measurements. The reconstruction methods that were used, the experimental apparatus and the obtained data are described for the case of a propane-air premixed flame. Transmission and emission spectra are given using a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer working at 4cm−1 resolution. Absorption profiles were determined for propane and carbone dioxide. A temperature profile is determined using only the carbone dioxide band when its emission by hot lines is significative.
