ENCOURAGING GIRLS TO PURSUE CAREERS IN SCIENCE AT A UNIVERSITY SCIENCE DAY CAMP
RESUMO
One way to increase the number of females considering careers in science is to introduce them at a critical age to positive role models. We have developed a one-week science day camp on our campus, in conjunction with Michigan Metro Girl Scouts (MMGS). We provide the faculty expertise, design the labs, and provide the site. MMGS handles registration and provides funding. The camp is well received, and several attendees have returned as camp aides. This program could be easily duplicated on almost any campus, designed around the faculty expertise and the laboratory and site facilities available.
