Noise Reduction in 3D Real-Time Ultrasound Imaging

This paper presents an approach based on order statistics for speckle and impulsive noise reduction in the 3-D ultrasound images. The technique uses the Rank M-type (RM) estimators that are adapted to 3-D image processing applications. The theory and real-time implementation on the DSP TMS320C6711 are presented by use real clinical ultrasound images. The results from known techniques are compared with the proposed method to demonstrate its performance.
