PHYSICAL FEATURES OF MODE BASIS IN OPEN DIELECTRIC STRUCTURES WITH DISCRETE AND CONTINUOUS SPECTRUM
RESUMO
Mode basis construction for a rectangular waveguide with a dielectric layer and one wall moved to infinity is considered. Spectrum partitioning into discrete (surface waves) and continuous (volume waves) parts is analyzed. Expressions for modal field distributions and norm functions are obtained in a closed form. Using FDTD method propagation of a discrete mode in the waveguide is calculated. Transformation between discrete and continuous parts of the mode spectrum and other physical features of this process are analyzed.
