DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF ENERGY EFFICIENT COMMUNICATION METHODS FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
RESUMO
The online monitoring of industrial processes, whether forecasting, Glacier monitoring, Volcano monitoring, battlefield scenario or any other remote and difficult to reach areas has always been a challenge to the researchers. The web enablement of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) can be proved as the boon for the remote sensing & monitoring applications. Added to this, the paper proposes an application level system design methodology to measure various physical quantities like temperature, light, humidity, acceleration and pressure inside an institute building using wireless sensor nodes. In this practical WSN scenario, it is shown that the sensor nodes battery lifetime is a function of on time of sensor node, internodes distance and refreshing time of the sensor nodes. It is also shown that the packet loss rates over the wireless channel in actual WSNs are highly variable and irregular irrespective of transmission distance.
