Correlation Between Solar Wind Energy and Non-Tidal Variations of Earth Rotation Velocity

RESUMO

Analysis of the data collected over 1972-1994 time span, shows that the 27 day's cycle of the system Earth-Sun, that is connected to the rotation of the Sun around its axis, leads to the emergence of marked 27 day's non-tidal variations in the day length, dP. A change of 0.1 erg·cm−2·s−1 in solar wind energy flow density results in dP variation by ∼50 μs, with the retardation of ∼10-35 days (the less is the energy, the larger is the retardation). A phenomenological mechanism is considered, in which dP variation observed can be explained by the change of the type of atmospheric circulation upon the arrival of corpuscular flow energy into the auroral zone.
