LIGHTNING LOCATION AND ESTIMATE OF THE LOWER IONOSPHERE EFFECTIVE HEIGHT USING BY DISPERSION PROPERTIES OF TWEEK ATMOSPHERICS

RESUMO

A new technique is suggested for finding the distance from lightning discharge and the effective height of the lower edge of ionosphere, which is based on the frequency dispersion of tweek-atmospherics (tweeks) propagating in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide in ambient night conditions. Examples are given of the distance evaluating from experimental records of tweeks with the help of suggested method (in the range 500 − 2500 km) and of the effective ionospheric height along the tweek propagation path. Accuracy is estimated of the height and distance derived by the proposed algorithm.
