Resonance Frequencies of Azimuthal-Uniform Oscillations of an Anisotropic Sphere

RESUMO

Single crystals of quartz, ruby and leikosapphire used in making high-Q resonators, are anisotropic with respect to the permittivity. In the paper, azimuthal-uniform oscillations of a dielectric sphere formed from a uniaxial single crystal are studied. It is shown that the anisotropy acts on the resonance oscillations of TM mode only. The two characteristic equations of the resonance oscillations of large polar indices have been numerically investigated with the demonstration that for a given polar index the anisotropy causes two TM mode oscillations with different frequencies, Q-factors, and radial components of the wave vector.
