Studying the Non-Linear Dynamics of Resonant O-Type Oscillators with Prolonged Wave-Beam Interaction: A Review
RESUMO
The paper is a review of the results of investigations on non-linear dynamics of the simplest O-type oscillator with a prolonged wave-beam interaction that have been conducted at the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics (IRE NAS of Ukraine) over the recent years. A variety of possible approaches to describing such an oscillator are analyzed. The character of electron motion in the beam and various method of its description are considered. The conditions for both soft and hard excitation of the oscillator are analyzed. The single mode operation of the oscillator is shown to be characterized by a number of steady generation states. It is shown that the conventional description of the electron motion, using series expansions in the small dimensionless wave amplitude, is good for accurately determining the transit angle magnitudes which correspond to the beginning of hard excitation zones, which it is inapplicable for the efficiency optimization of the device.
