Abstract of "The Ethics of Profit"
RESUMO
Be honest now and describe what you think when you see the word profit. If you are like most people, you have mixed feelings about the wordand it really depends on who is getting the profit. If it is you and you just sold a bed for 2x what you paid for it, then that is OK in your mind. And if you buy a bed for x from someone who paid 2x for it, then that is OK too. How can it be OK for you to make a profit and others not? In this presentation, we will explore the ethics of profit. Probably no other word in the English language causes the fusion of so many topics since it combines and/or causes the collision of the disciplines of economics, ethics, business, religion, and politics. In fact, the communist, capitalist, and socialist world views all swirl around how profits are viewed and interpreted. In addition to causing the fusion of topics, probably no other word in the English language also causes so much confusion and mixed feelings. Is it ethical to make a profit? If so, when is it too much? Is it ethics or profit? Ethics and profit? Or ethics before profit? This presentation will look into these topics as well.
