Localized Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis of the Knee: Outcomes of Arthroscopic Synovectomy

Pigmented villonodular synovitis is a rare condition in the adolescent population affecting synovial joints. The knee joint is affected primarily with the diffuse form. The localized form is less commonly encountered. Open and arthroscopic synovectomy lead to similar outcomes and resolution of symptoms. However, recurrence is higher with open procedures. We present a review of the literature examining outcomes of arthroscopic synovectomy.
