RESUMO

This article is a response to the opened in the Journal discussion about "rational theoretical basis for existence of cybernetics". A mental experiment is described, in which a living system "demonstrates" behavior characterized by absence of contradiction between "determinism by goal" and physical determinism. It is shown, that a correct analysis of such a case and its consequences becomes possible only if it includes some assertions of semiotics and if this analysis highlights in the goal-orienting process another process of signifying with at least two sides, semantic and syntactic.
