RESUMO

Under the same conditions of oxygen supply, hemoglobin content in the hemolymph of Planorbis planorbis is two to four times as high as in the hemolymph of Pl. corneus. This allows representatives of the former species to "inhale" air less frequently than it is necessary for Pl. corneus mollusks. Relative hemoglobin content in Pl. corneus snails from a dried pond proved to be increased. This may provide for a high buffer capacity of the hemolymph, which is very important for metabolism under anaerobic conditions.
