Processes of Production and Decomposition in Microphytobenthos (on the example of the sections of he tail water of the Kiev Hydro-Electric Power Station)

Results of the study of the processes of production and decomposition in microphytobenthos in the sections of the tail water of the Kiev Hydro-Electric Power Station carried out in 2001−2003 are presented. It has been found that the total production of microphytobenthos varied over a wide range. This fact suggests that its indices of production and decomposition depend on many factors. It has been found, that intra-daily fluctuations in water level determined by the operating conditions of the Kiev Hydro-Electric Power Station essentially influence the processes of production and decomposition in microphytobenthos. The peculiarities of its functioning under the influence of this factor in the Kiev section of the Kanev reservoir were investigated.
