The Mechanism of Mass Transfer in Combustion of the Mo-B System
RESUMO
Regularities of combustion of Mo−B, Mo−B−MoO3, and Mo−B−B2O3 systems, depending on the ratio of components in the initial mixture, the amount of added oxide and inert gas pressure, have been investigated. In studying the combustion mechanism, special attention was paid to the cases of addition of a small amount (up to 6 wt.%) of boron and molybdenum oxides to the initial molybdenum-boron mixture. Based on the conducted thermodynamic analysis and experimental data on the regularities of combustion, we proposed a possible mechanism of combustion wave propagation in a "gas-free" molybdenum-boron system, in which much importance is paid to mass transfer by means of boron oxides.
