RESUMO

Study on the porous burners has been the focus of many researches in the past decade, due to the favorable features of these burners. An important issue in the development of porous burners is the stabilization of flame on the surface of the porous medium. Therefore, it is vital to study the conditions that result in the flash-back of flame in a porous media burner. The present paper concerns the flash-back (flame propagation to upstream) in a porous media burner. An experimental setup is devised to investigate the flash-back of flame in a SiC porous burner. The flame flash-back time, and the mean temperature of the preheating section at the flash-back of flame, are measured and reported. Effects of porosity (4 pores per centimeter, PPC and 8 PPC), and firing rates from 216 to 754 (kW/m2) on the flash-back time and temperature are investigated. Results show a strong influence of convection mechanism on temperature profile downstream of the flash-back flame for both porosities. The flash-back flame pattern depends on the porosity of the medium. The flash-back temperature increases by increasing the firing rate.
