Enhancement: Part II. The Role of Transition to Turbulent Flow
RESUMO
The role of transition in determining friction factor and nondimensional heat transfer coefficient is verified via the frictional law of corresponding states. Relationships between the friction factor and Nusselt number are developed for laminar, transitional and turbulent flow. For turbulent flow, the relation is in perfect agreement with the well known Reynolds analogy. The proposed method affords direct calculation of heat transfer coefficient in laminar, transitional and turbulent flow from the friction factor data for smooth and enhanced passages, provided values of the critical friction factor and Reynolds number are known. A general relationship is established for the critical parameters at the onset of transition.
