BLAST WAVE VISUALIZATION AND DENSITY MEASUREMENT AROUND CYLINDERS IN CROSS FLOW: EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL STUDY
RESUMO
In this paper, the Colored Background Oriented Schlieren (CBOS) technique is applied to measure the density field around quasi two-dimensional cylinders passed by a blast wave. Time-resolved Differential Interferometry (DI) is additionally used in order to visualize the complex shock–shock interactions. Sensors in the shock tube wall measure the time-resolved pressures at certain positions. The qualitative (DI) and quantitative (CBOS, pressure sensors) experimental data are compared against Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation results. The CFD results allow one to explain the effects coming along with blast waves and their interaction with obstacles. Excellent agreement between experiment and simulation was found.
