INFLUENCE OF RADIATION ON THE FORMATION OF NO AND OH IN TURBULENT NON-PREMIXED HYDROGEN FLAMES

RESUMO

In this article, we consider hydrogen turbulent non-premixed flames, where the influence of radiative heat loss on NO and OH formation is investigated. The thermo-chemical model is constructed with three parameters, mixture fraction, progress reaction variable and heat release ratio, for which transport equations are solved. The NO formation is described with the extended Zeldovich mechanism. In the radiation model, the optically thin medium hypothesis is used, where only water is considered as the radiation-active molecule. In order to bring to the fore the interaction between turbulence and chemistry, three flames with different fuel dilution ratios are studied. After comparing numerical simulation to experimental data, one can conclude that, for the purpose of simulating temperature, radiation can be neglected. However, to predict NO production in flames with lower dilution ratios, radiation effects must be considered.
