Modulation of Dexamethasone-Induced Effects on the Rat Skeletal Muscles by Testosterone
RESUMO
In experiments on adult white female rats, the effectiveness of testosterone propionate in smoothing the negative effects of dexamethasone on the skeletal muscles was studied using electromyographic and ergographic techniques. It has been established that chronic administration of dexamethasone caused a decrease in the amplitude of the anterior tibial muscle contraction by 29.7 − 59.3% (after 5 − 25 injections) and the prolongation of the muscle excitation latency by 18.5 − 16.5% (after 15 − 25 injections), while the combined use of testosterone and dexamethasone prevented the change in these parameters. However, testosterone failed to smooth the negative impact of dexamethasone on muscle's resistance to the fatigue development.
