RESUMO

Two Ganoderma species (G. lucidum and G. lipsiense, Ganodermatales) are regarded as popular remedies in Chinese and Japanese traditional medicine and their effectiveness seems to be reasonably acceptable. The cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus assay performed in vitro on human lymphocytes for several concentrations of crude extracts shows that these two mushroom species do not exhibit genotoxic properties (clastogenicity and/or aneugenicity). Moreover, no cytotoxic effect was detected at any dose.
