10-Oxo-trans-8-decenoic Acid Stimulates the Growth of Fungi

RESUMO

A fungal metabolite, 10-oxo-trans-8-decenoic acid (ODA), was prepared as a crude ODA solution and its effect on mycelial growth on agar plates, in shaken flasks, in a jar fermentor, and in practical cultivation was studied. With the addition of 2.5-10 ppm to the agar, the ODA affected the mycelial growth of most fungi except for Lentinus edodes 271 and Volvariella volvacea. With the addition of ODA into broth, no effect on the biomass of L. edodes 271 and Pleurotus eryngii was found and at 10 ppm, relative laccase activity ratios were in the range of 1.07-5.90. ODA could stimulate the mycelial growth of Aspergillus niger or A. oryzae and increase their enzyme activities. ODA did not stimulate the mycelia growth of P. eryngii in shaken flasks but affected its growth in a jar fermentor. In plastic bag cultivation, ODA affected the yields of Auricularia fuscosuccinea white at early flushes. With the addition of ODA to sawdust, the percentages of fertile bags could be increased. Overall, ODA can be considered a bioactive substance or fungal hormone and may be beneficial in mycelia fermentation of edible and medicinal mushroom cultivation.
