Two different transient boiling heat transfer regimes have been revealed for porous coatings. The first is connected with a heat pulse input to the deactivated nucleation sites on the porous surface. In this case some time after incipient boiling was initiated significant deterioration of heat transfer took place at heat fluxes below the critical value. This effect can result in the possibility of quenching in real high temperature superconductivity devices. The second regime took place if the porous structure contained some vapor fraction. In this case the porous coating made incipient boiling easier and promoted the transition to steady state nucleate boiling at low values of temperature superheat. %8 1997-06-01
