FOURIER ANALYSIS APPLIED TO ENCLOSURES WITH ISOTHERMAL GASES

Resumo

A method for analyzing multi-surface enclosures containing an isothermal, non-gray gas and non-gray reflective walls is presented. The method uses a general-purpose matrix formulation, which expresses the spectral exchange factors ⁄η,k−j between pairs of surfaces as functions of the surface properties and a set of “gaseous form factors” Gη,k−j which are functions of the gas's absorption coefficient κη. In the past the mean beam length approximation has often been used to simplify the quadruple integral Gη,k−j(κη) to an explicit expression. The present treatment applies Fourier series theory to develop an expression for Gη,k−j that can always be taken to higher accuracy by adding additional terms in the series. The method uses the smoothed-band model for the gas's bands, and integration across the spectrum is done by a precise numerical scheme. The method is illustrated through an example problem.
