Resumo

Laboratory scale modeling of the non-stationary dynamics of turbulent buoyant plumes in stratified fluid revealed excitation of the internal waves in the tank. A measured dependence of the oscillations’ amplitude on the control parameter is typical of the self-sustained regime. It is demonstrated theoretically and by means of DNS that the flow might support self-sustained modes.
