The structure and surface manifestation of the internal waves, excited by turbulent buoyant plumes in stratified fluid
RESUMO
Laboratory scale modeling of sewage disposal from submerged diffusers of the wastewater outfalls was carried out in the Large Thermally Stratified Tank of IAP RAS. It was shown that intensive excitation of the internal waves occured due to the interaction of turbulent buoyant plumes and a thermocline and a shear flow was formed below the thermocline. A theoretical model of the field of the internal waves is constructed for the experimentally obtained velocity and density fields. It is demonstrated that a bimodal regime of the internal waves’ excitation takes place with the first mode localized in the thermocline region, and the second one in the jet. The hydrodynamic contrasts produced by the internal waves in the field of the surface waves are estimated theoretically basing on the experimental data.
