RESUMO

The transport behaviour of the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy in the context of Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) simulations has been analysed in detail using a Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) database of statistically planar turbulent premixed flames. The density gradient and dilatation rate arising from heat release give rise to additional terms in the transport equation of the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy. These terms play particularly important roles in flames with Lewis number significantly smaller than unity. The global Lewis number is shown to have a significant influence both on the qualitative and quantitative nature of the transport of turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate in turbulent premixed flames.
