Resumo

In this paper the flow over square shaped bodies arranged in tandem is investigated using Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Detached Eddy Simulation (DES). The purpose is to understand the drag exerted by these objects. The flow over bluff bodies is an important investigation in the design of engineering applications. The Reynolds number (Re) of the flow based on the free stream velocity (Uo) and the width (w) of square cylinders is 22,000. The square shaped cylinders are six times of the width (w) apart. The role of the vortex shedding on the drag specially from the objects in the downstream direction of the flow is investigated. Also the dynamics of coherent structures is explored.
