RESUMO

This paper reports measurements of the mean velocity and turbulence quantities in smooth and rough wall turbulent wall jets created in an open channel flow. The measurements were obtained using a laser-Doppler anemometer. The Reynolds numbers based on the jet exit conditions are in the range 7000 < Rej (= Ujb/v) < 14500. The turbulence intensity in the central region of the jet exit varied from 3 to 5 percent. The results show that the inner layer of the mean velocity field and the skin friction characteristics are significantly altered by surface roughness but the turbulence quantities are nearly independent of roughness effects.
