ABSTRACT

The present study focusses on the numerical study of a natural circulation loop having multiple vertical channels, in a single phase. The simulations in this work have been carried out by the help of RELAP5/Mod4.1 codes with suitable nodalisation and optimal heat structure. The objective of this work is to observe the behaviour of mass flow rate with time in the multi-channel loop with horizontal heater and cooler, under natural circulation in regards of flow oscillations, flow reversals and distribution of mass flow rate in the vertical channels. Loops with different geometrical orientations were subjected to simulation, under similar operating conditions, to study the effect of loop geometry on mass flow distribution. A comparative study of loops with different geometrical configuration is carried out to assess their capability of maintaining a stable flow regime.
