ABSTRACT
Two types of design method, (a) Silver's method, based on a predetermined temperature/enthalpy relationship, and (b) film-theory mass-transfer models, for condensation of vapours from a non-condensing gas are discussed and compared. Particular attention is directed towards a comparison of the methods with some recently published data from condensation of vapours forming both miscible and immiscible liquid phases inside vertical tubes. The effect of including the film-theory mass-transfer correction term, described in a previous paper, in Silver's method is also considered.
