ABSTRACT

The DOMHESE Expert System presented in this paper has as main objective to achieve an optimal design of Small Hydroelectric Power Stations with an important reduction of engineering costs.
DOMHESE realizes sequentially the three following main functions: optimal plant selection, risk analysis and preliminary design; in the optimal plant selection, specially in the two first stages -equipment flow and 'Machinery-Civil Works' basic designs selection- is contained the most of expert knowledge, that means in practice a prototype that includes about 300 rules in this phase.
In the final selection of design essentially participate economic criteria of investment profitability and its associated risk.
